UK based freight forwarder, Mercator, was recently appointed to handle three 40’ high cube shipping containers from Japan to the UK on one bill of lading.
The goods were purchased by the UK importer on FOB (free on board) incoterm, meaning their supplier arranged for the loading of the shipping containers from Japan, delivery to the port for export (in this case Tokyo), export customs, and loading onto the shipping vessel for sea freight to the UK.
At this point, the risk and responsibility of the cargo transferred from the supplier in Japan to the UK importer. In conjunction with our partner agent based in Osaka, Mercator’s import team arranged the sea freight, marine insurance, UK landing charges, customs clearance and delivery to door in the UK.
Transit time for shipping containers from Japan to the UK is around 55 days, depending on routing and origin/destination ports. In this particular instance, the routing was Tokyo to Felixstowe. Thanks to our connections in Japan, we cover all major ports including Osaka, Kobe, Nagoya and Yokohama. Similarly, in the UK we have badges to customs clear at the major ports including Southampton, London Gateway, Felixstowe, Tilbury and Liverpool to name a few.
