Freight forwarder Mercator was recently tasked with the export of UK produced oat milk to the USA. The UK exporter was looking for a freight forwarder to the US who was able to handle the shipment on a DAP basis. In conjunction with our partner agent based in Chicago, our team were able to liaise with the UK exporter to ensure that the necessary licencing and pre-notifications were present and correct prior to departure from the UK. The oat milk was sold on a DAP (delivered at place) basis, meaning that the UK exporter was responsible for the shipment from their door, through to door in the US. Once the goods arrived in the US at the agreed place, the risk and responsibility transferred to the US importer, who completed customs and settled any required duties and taxes alongside their freight forwarder to the US.
The shipment was bound for Colombus OH, and so our team arranged for the shipping container to route from the UK via Southampton port, through Norfolk in the US, where it transferred to the rail network and arrived at Colombus ramp in Ohio.
The transit time from the UK to US varies depending on the port at origin and destination. For the US East Coast, transit time ranges from 7-25 days. In this instance, Southampton to Norfolk VA took 24 days, plus an extra 5 days for rail transport North to Ohio.
