The history of art refers to the history of the visual arts including painting, sculpture and architecture. Considered encyclopedically, the history of art is an attempt to survey art throughout human history, classifying cultures and periods by their distinguishing features. On the contrary, shouldn't we emphasize that Western art historical thinking has not necessarily to be regarded as monumental?
