2.5 stars
SPOILER🛑 but you should probably take the title of the book very literally, because she really has never and will never know men or KNOW ANYTHING AND NEITHER WILL WE.
I am actually so mad. I wish I knew this had one of those annoying open endings with zero answers. Just repetitive ramblings from start to end.
I was waiting with bated breath for something to happen, the author would even tease me with the possibility of a revelation. But don't hold your breath like I did. Every time you think it's something interesting, it's just them finding the same shit for 20 years.
I was dying of curiosity about the mystery of the women's circumstances, it was genuinely the only thing that had me hooked amongst the repetitive writing. It didn't even cross my mind that something so suspenseful would never be revealed.
The narrator and I were left in a pile of unanswered questions, accompanied by a despondent feeling that came with the ending of this book. It was completely depressing in a way that mirrors a real hunger for discovering hidden answers to questions that will never be found or be just out of reach.
Was this perhaps a metaphor about the uncertain reality of our own lives? Yea IDGAF, give me answers.

I have understood nothing about the world in which I live. I have criss-crossed it in every direction but I haven't discovered its boundaries

Daveia, i avoided reading any spoiler for this book bcz I thought it would have all the big reveals😭 but all the spoilers just warn you abt this
For me it was definitely a metaphor about our own life and planet in the universe! But felt frustrated too…
USUALLY, I’d say yes to all your points. But this is the one story I’ve ever read that felt intentional in its lack of answers, it added so much despair
Agree for sure - I would have scored higher if it was revealed how their circumstances came to be. Frustrating.
I typically don’t read reviews before starting books because it typically doesn’t stop me from reading the book. I wish I had read the reviews for this one because I honestly feel like I wasted 6.5 hours of my life listening to this.
I feel the same exact way. I just finished the book and like, I wouldn't mind it being so open ended if there were a smidgen of context or lore given. There were no answers and no ways to even speculate any actual answers. I feel kind of like the women in the book trying to figure out something, anything. Maybe that was the point. Even so, this book was not for me personally.
Love this review. Definitely no spoilers because there is nothing to spoil. Literally there is nothing.
I think that’s the beauty of it. We spend the whole time wondering how they got there but there HOPING she will make it out jsut to have to what she did at the end
Not the worst book I’ve read but I Agree it wasn’t great.. I started it 3 times hoping to get a bit is inspiration to get further into it.. .I made it to page 50 and gave up. Then, because I had bookclub I decided to read the last 30 pages and managed 15. That’s a few hours of my life I won’t get back. I didn’t expect anything to happen but if this is the thrust of the book then the writing needs to make up for the lack of narrative arc. I just found it one long repetitive, indulgent, navel gazing writing experiment that doesn’t pass the taste test. NEXT book please.
I felt as though the book didn’t give answers or satisfaction to the reader much in the way life didn’t give answers to the protagonist of the story
This captured how I really felt about this book. I was so disappointed I didn’t put the effort into reviewing
I seriously don’t get how people are giving this 5 stars lol. Like yeah it was well written and the setting was intriguing, but where was the actual story??? I feel like this would have made a great A24 film lol
I was sure she was going to find herself a man!! But no, just nothing and same thing and no answers at all! Ugh!
I completely agree with you on this. I felt like this book could have given us so much but instead it gave us nothing, and well a very dull ending.
I totally second your thoughts on this... Same feelings... The only thing pushing me on was also answers... I couldn't accept this whole concept... I want logic... If you're someone who wants logical solutions... Don't read this!

... sometimes it saves you. like now. because wow, this would infuriate me.
