i'm TRULY obsessed with abby jimenez's work! I'm such a dumbo and read this series in the weirdest way possible (book 3, then book 1, then book 2) and while book 1 and book 3 in this series were LIFE CHANGING romance reads that reside in the happiest corner of my heart, this book kind of misses the mark
now now, put your pitchforks down and allow me to explain myself.
Jacob, an incredible, sweet, anxious little cinnamon roll. We love him
You know what we don't love
THIS STUPID MISUNDERSTANDING TROPE THAT LASTS FOR LIKE 50% OF THE BOOK where both people are JUMPING TO THE DUMBEST CONCLUSIONS AND USING THAT AS A REASON TO NOT BE TOGETHER
at first, the stupid martyr, misunderstanding trope is forgiveable. but when it lasts such a long time and you're stuck in the head of these characters going back and forth and back and forth in their self-depreciation and worry and 'oh my god he just wants to be with me to get over his ex he doesn't actually like me woe is me' with NO FACTS, NO EVIDANCE, NO REASON TO THINK THIS WAY
it made me want to yank my airpods out of my ears and throw them into a river
broooo you're too old to be acting like a 14 year old in love for the first time spare meeeeee
anyways, it's cute, except for those parts. i adore the way abby writes family dynamics and friendships. the build up to the romantic relationship is adorable beyond belief, but CUT THAT ANNOYING, BORING MISUNDERSTANDIG
also cameos from my other babies <3 <3 <3 <3...more
I did actually enjoyed this as a mystery. There was enough unknown and weird occurrences that made me want to continue reading to find out 3.5 stars!!
I did actually enjoyed this as a mystery. There was enough unknown and weird occurrences that made me want to continue reading to find out what truly is happening.
Following a father was a refreshing point of view, I actually really liked following this thought process, there were some stupid decisions made but I can overlook it for the sake of the story.
I wasn't blown away by the story or the reveal of the mystery, but it was engaging and interesting enough to hold my attention, especially in this genre.

however, there were moment in this book that made me want to unlearn the english language. And it's not because this book isn't my usual cup of romantic tea. it's not, but i'm not faulting the book for that.
you want to know WHO IS AT FAULT????
FREAKING SCARLETT
oh my god!!! being in this girl's head is like walking with noise cancellation headphones and your eyes closed onto oncoming traffic. her internal dialogue is SO FREAKING ANNOYING
it's not even like she's the most unsuspecting beautiful girl of all time and everyone is in love with her but shes so ditzfully unaware (which is the case btw) but she genuinely is like "omg i'm so boring, Luke will never wanna be around me :( even though he spent the last 14 hours locked up in my room :( i'm truly so boring :( and plain :( and maybe i dont deserve my spot here"
like GIRL SHUT UPPPPP
we get it, imposter syndrome and overthinking brains, i have one of those too, but this is SERIOUSLY TOO MUCH. it's like we are 95% into the book and girl is still being like 'do you think he likes me????? ...more

love love love the way ali hazelwood writes romance tropes. we got grumpy and sunshine, we got a solid age difference, we got second chance romance, we got science and tech nerds, and of course the most important and signature ali hazelwood: we got a down badddd boy who is OBSESSED with a nerdy girl

i enjoy christina lauren bc their books are just so easy to read and get through. fun, light-hearted, cute. This one dragged for me personally. 150 pages in and we already know how it's going to end, the conflict was soooo crap, that 3rd act break up scene had me wanting to rip out my hair, like you could have tried harder to make it a bit more interesting.
