really liked it

This is desolate and despondent. But it never tricks you into thinking it will be anything else. It tells you from page one that this isn't a happy story and that you'll be left wanting. But the story-tellers we are trick ourselves into believing that everything will get wrapped up in a nice little bow. No. False. This is pure science fiction. I don't know what was going on at any point of this book but by god am I so glad it exists. A women wrote this in the 90s??? Iconic. Never before seen. Stunning.

For such a short book, it packs a massive punch. Almost anything you could have questions about in a dystopian world are brought up in these mere 188 pages.

I can't say I ever felt fulfilled or happy reading this book but it definitely left me reeling and talking about the subject matter with everyone who had the displeasure of being within ear shot of me that week.

Critically this book is a 5 star. But by vibes, it's a 4.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate this comment so much and I don't even know how to explain why. So, just...thank you!

Karolina Vavatsikou Wow I couldn't have put it better myself. Exactly this. This is the review. I was left a human question mark. I am filled with the dread of loneliness even if it's my go-to status of existence lol. My only addition is her not knowing men wasnt the most defining element of her existence but oh well

message 23: by Jill (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jill I read this one over a year ago and it still haunts me to this day. Great review!

message 24: by Lola (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lola Fitzgerald spot on!!!

Khanh Beautiful review. I am rereading it, and also one of the people on my friends list commented on someone else's review, someone who disliked it. Well, not every book is for everyone. And as you said, this is definitely not a happy story. But Honestly, I loved it, because it made me think and because it isn't a story that's wrapped up in a neat little package. It's just a different story altogether, and the writing… Just wow.

Emma Sutton Fantastic review!! This is exactly how I felt reading the book and I’ve been hopping between 4 & 5 stars because of it.

jacquelyn harris completely agree about it being 5 stars critically but 4 stars otherwise !!

Gabrielle Couldn't agree more! This book blew my mind a bit.

Nishat Salsabil I just finished reading it. I too rated it a 4 star. Mainly because I so badly wanted her to find some answer or finally reach a civilisation or any sort of any meaning to this whole story. But then I realized that this is exactly how the story was supposed to end and this is exactly how it is supposed to make us readers feel! Crazy!

message 35: by Reem (new) - rated it 4 stars

Reem I’m with you on this, and I know it mentioned that it wasn’t a happy ending and nothing happens, but my, how frustrated I felt throughout reading it. I loved it but hated how it went nowhere, she should’ve gave us something to hang our hopes on —she gave quite a few but they vanished about the same time she delivered them. All and all, great monologues and passages written all over but it didn’t give me closure, I hated that.

Natalie 1000% agree

Claudia Gooch this review is exactly how I feel about this

Kandis Doucet YES. THIS. I also gave it 4 stars, but feel like it could be 5? Maybe it is 5? It’s been a solid 24 hours since I finished, and I still feel so uneasy. I think that’s the point though.

Taylor Cason This review is perfect

Phoebe Grace A review so spot on I can’t even begin to write my own
