The Handmaid’s Tale (The Handmaid's Tale, #1)

This book focuses on a dystopian society where the child-bearing women are rounded up and forced to produce children for the barren Wives.
This is an interesting book with flashbacks to the "before" period, the period before Gilead. It is also very interesting to know that this book was written more than 35 years ago, but it still relevant today. Although serious, this book really gave me food for thought in more ways than one.
There are some key differences between this book and the Hulu mini-series although the series does follow the book pretty closely. Third time reading this, and I am pretty sure there will be a fourth.

I tried to read this one but it didn't click with me. I set it down to try again later...maybe soon. Great review, Lisa! Glad you loved it!
Not a big fan of the writing style with this one, but liked the story. I was pleasantly surprised with the sequel. I expected a cash grab, but actually thought the Testaments better than Handmaid's Tale.

I really loved the ideas presented. They were excellent food for thought. I haven't actually read the Testaments yet so I will have to check that out. Thanks for the recommendation!
I saw so many reviews that made me hesitant to read this but your review made me excited to get to it!
I just read this book for a second time and it’s still a favorite. I’m sure there will be a third. Great review Lisa.
The series has distorted this book i feel. Anyway I somehow cannot relate with anything on screen which were previously in a book!
I really liked this one when I read it in university. I used it as a book club choice with my advanced grade 12s and they hated it. I was so surprised
Thanks for the review! I read this book back in my college days, and didn't particularly enjoy it. I feel like some "subversive" reading is a good choice this year, so I re-read it and found myself utterly captivated by both the story and the language. I'm always fascinated when a book is a mile marker for personal change.
