Are you looking for a new way of living? A way that stops anxious thoughts and releases heavy burdens you are not meant to carry? In The Way of the Wildflower, join bestselling author and artist Ruth Chou Simons as she invites you to learn the art of pausing in God's rest to live free, unhurried, and unburdened.
Wildflowers don't need to be taught how to live freely, to release their burdens, or to work for their belovedness, freedom, and resilience.
In Luke 12:25–28 ESV, Jesus tells us, "Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith!"
Friend, the antidote to our burdened hearts is to live as children who rest in the care of our heavenly Father. We don't need to labor and spin, as though it all depends on us. It doesn't. In The Way of the Wildflower, you will embark on a spiritual journey led by Ruth Chou Simons to grow deeper in your relationship with God. In this beautiful, deluxe, full-color devotional, hand-painted by Ruth with stunning botanicals, you'll
Bible verses to feed you truth Statements of faith to preach to yourself Prayers to guide you Interesting facts about wildflowers and lessons we can learn from them As you journey through 30 meditations, you will learn five ways of
The Way of Dependency The Way of Freedom The Way of Resilience The Way of the Unhurried The Way of Belovedness The same Jesus who instructs us to not worry about our lives is the Jesus who made a path for us to have the ultimate assurance of salvation. He made a way to the Father when there was no way. Is anything too hard for our God? Are any of your worries and fears beyond his capable hands?
If you're wrestling with your past, struggling in your present, or fearful for your future, pause and be still. Consider how the wildflowers grow, remember that the God who cares for them cares for you, too, and let your anxious soul find rest in Him.

I received an arc as part of the book launch team. I love Ruth's books, and I'm excited to have the actual copy of the book in my hand. Artwork is just not the same on a computer screen as in a book. The book deals with anxiety and uses flowers to describe different types. It was an enjoyable read.
This book carries a quiet peace that felt like an invitation to slow down and remember that the Lord holds every burden I try to carry alone. Each page opened with gentle truth, reminding me that He tends the anxious places in my heart with the same steady care He gives to the wildflowers He scatters across the earth.
Ruth’s meditations felt like small, steady breaths drawn from Scripture … not rushed, not heavy, simply rooted in the character of God. The pairing of each passage with a single bloom created a rhythm that helped my mind settle and my thoughts turn toward the One who provides, sustains, and meets His children in their need.
The artwork added its own quiet ministry. Soft washes of color, delicate petals, and thoughtful detail created space for my heart to rest. The beauty on the page never distracted from the truth; it simply helped me see that the God who shapes every flower with intention shapes my life with the same care.
These meditations invited my soul toward dependency, resilience, unhurried rest, and belovedness… gently drawing me into deeper trust. Every reflection carried the assurance that the Lord holds His children with unwavering tenderness and keeps every promise He has spoken.
This book will bless anyone seeking calm in anxious days, anyone who needs Scripture wrapped in beauty, and anyone longing for a quiet place to remember the Lord’s tenderness toward His children.

With its gorgeous illustrations and even more beautiful truths, The Way of the Wildflower is an encouragement to embrace God as our creator, savior, and sustainer rather than striving to navigate life in our own strength. Each topic is relevant, but none are superficial. Ruth brings readers back to Scripture and back to Jesus in each entry.
This book is coming at a time when so many of us long time followers of Jesus are just weary of the world and desperately need the reminder that we can rely on Him for all that we need. The divisions are really helpful-making it easy to quickly turn to a topic relevant to your current circumstance; Ruth’s points are insightful, and of course, the artwork is as beautiful as ever.
This books was beautiful to its core and brought much needed encouragement and truth to reset my gaze on Jesus, whatever my circumstances. I’ve loved all of Ruth’s books, but this is my favorite one yet.

This book has met me in a season. It started with the pain and has worked through to the healing that only Jesus can give. It has blessed my heart and thinking about wildflowers has given a earthly representation to have my heart has felt. The writing is real. It is relatable. It is full of truth. The sections of the devotional are powerful and God will work through you as you read this devotional if you surrender and lay it at his feet.
Sometimes gift books look beautiful without having much substance inside. With books by Ruth Chou Simons, you know that what you're getting is both visually stunning and spiritually nourishing. This latest devotional helps women rest in Jesus in the midst of anxiety and life challenges, and it also features beautiful watercolor art of wildflowers. Every single page includes art, whether it is a lush scene or a simple silhouette. This book is also aesthetically pleasing as a physical object. The cover has a nice texture and shiny gilding, the sewn binding is sturdy, and the thick pages feel premium.
Each reading focuses on a different life situation or emotional theme, such as "when disappointment threatens to take you out." Chou Simons shares biblical wisdom for responding to these universal concerns, and she writes with great compassion for her readers. She shares gospel truths, unpacks Bible verses, and offers hard-won perspectives from her life. Bible verses also appear in calligraphy as part of the art.
The Way of the Wildflower uses wildflowers as a metaphor for the Christian life, just like Jesus did in Matthew 6:28-30. Each devotion features art representing a different flower. At the end of the reading, Chou Simons briefly shares facts about that flower. These illustrated side notes may include details about where the flower grows and what leads to its flourishing, as well as any relevant historical or cultural associations with the plant. The author then ties in a spiritual message, relating each wildflower to the message from that reading.
The Way of the Wildflower is a visually beautiful, spiritually encouraging gift book. This book can speak to readers in lots of different tough situations. I appreciated how calming the writing and the art were on nights when I felt too unsettled to focus on reading anything else. Women in many different life stages will appreciate this book's depth and wisdom, as well as its sheer loveliness, and I highly recommend it. This is a gorgeous coffee table book and a great source of spiritual encouragement.
I received a free copy from the publisher, and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
In The Way of the Wildflower, Ruth Chou Simons offers a quiet, soul-refreshing devotional for those feeling overwhelmed, burdened, or spiritually dry. Through short reflections, she draws powerful parallels between the way wildflowers grow—unhurried, dependent, unseen—like flowers that bloom in hidden places without effort or worry, we’re reminded that flourishing doesn’t come from performance, but from being anchored in grace.
Each reading is rooted in Scripture and offers gentle encouragement without pressure or performance. The themes—like resilience, rest, identity, and freedom—speak to anyone needing a reminder that they are deeply loved and cared for.
What makes this book especially unique are Simons’ beautiful hand-painted watercolor illustrations. Her artwork transforms each page into a space of calm and beauty, reinforcing the message that flourishing comes not from striving, but from resting in God’s care.
This is more than a devotional—it’s an invitation to slow down, let go, and remember that, like the wildflower, you are already being held. The Way of the Wildflower is not just a book to read—it’s a moment of worship in stillness, like a quiet walk through a blooming field, where your soul is allowed to exhale.
The Way of the Wildflower lives up to its name and is truly full to overflowing with “Gospel Meditations to Unburden Your Anxious Soul”. No matter what you bring to the table when you open this book, you will find the truth of God’s Word on each page, ready to speak peace and love to whatever you are walking through and whatever you are carrying inside. Ruth’s spiritual depth, authenticity, and ability to speak truth in love is so evident throughout this devotional. She leads by example in what it means to truly trust Jesus and rely on His steadfast character, no matter the challenges or circumstances of life. This devotional is organized into five “ways” of living as the wildflowers do: dependency, freedom, resilience, unhurriedness, and belovedness. Each section is full of Scripture, practical application of truth in a variety of circumstances and seasons of life, and thoughtful looks at the wildflowers that inspire and beautifully fill each page of the book. Ruth’s artwork encourages you to pause, linger, and meditate on the goodness of God as you reflect on the truths shared.
I highly recommend The Way of the Wildflower to anyone wanting to grow in understanding and awe of the beauty of the Gospel, and anyone ready to lay their anxious burdens down.
The Way of The Wildflower was truly delightful to read! Ruth consistently lifts our eyes to Jesus and His truth as the healing balm to our anxious thoughts. Jesus told us to consider the wildflowers, how God perfectly cares for them, and how much more will He care for His sons and daughters. This book will invite you to give your fears to your heavenly Father and walk with Him in the way of Dependency, Freedom, Resilience, Unhurriedness, and Belovedness.
Each page of this lovely book is filled with gentle, meaningful paintings of wildflowers. It feels like a calming walk in God's creation each time I flip through the pages! I love how at the end of each devotional, Ruth placed a section about a particular wildflower and how it relates to the topic of that devotional.
One thing, I especially love is that this book doesn't just give us trite advice or worldly methods of dealing with anxiety. Ruth lifts our eyes to see God, directs us to His Word, points to the work of Christ as the foundation of our unshakeable hope. It is God's truth that sets us free, and this book has already helped me to take steps towards deeper freedom in Christ!
Ruth again delivers a power-packed devotional. This book can be read day by day, or pick it up and read the chapter that describes what you are currently going through. I am going through it day by day, and it is amazing how the devotional ends up being EXACTLY what I needed! Ruth starts with a thought and then moves into an easy to read devotional that is attention grabbing but leads to powerful, life changing thoughts. Her devotionals are biblically sound and include scripture. At the end of the chapter, she has a section where she explains about the flower and links it to the chapter. These ending thoughts stick with you and really help bring the point home. The artwork is beautiful and helps create those pause-and-sink-in moments. I am grateful for this book and am excited to lead my small group through it. I cannot read a chapter without thinking of a friend I would love to give a copy of this book to.
The Way of the Wildflower is one of those devotionals that I will return to again and again. Ruth looks carefully at the beauty of God’s creation in Wildflowers and connects this to the truth of God’s love for us and His provision in Christ throughout our varied lives. Did you know that there are over 20,000 Wildflowers in the U.S. alone? It’s a poignant reminder of God’s creativity around us and in who he created us to be. The book is broken down into different topics that all will find relevant at times. A few that stood out to me were; When you are afraid of the future, When grief is fresh, When you just want a perfect plan, When disappointment threatens to undo you, and When you don’t feel lovely. In each devotional, Ruth looks at a common challenge in life and reminds us that God will and does meet us there in His love. As He cares for the Wildflowers, He provides deeply in ways we may not even see for a time, but He is faithful.
The Way of the Wildflower is an absolutely stunning devotional, both visually and spiritually. Ruth Chou Simons has created something truly special here, pairing her breathtaking hand-painted botanicals with deeply gospel-centered meditations that speak gently but powerfully to the anxious soul.
I especially love how the metaphor of the wildflower is woven throughout, reminding us of God’s care, beauty, and presence in the seemingly small and overlooked things. Each section, Dependency, Freedom, Resilience, Unhurriedness, and Belovedness, invites a pause, a breath, and a return to truth. The Scripture selections, prayers, and personal reflections offer just the right blend of encouragement and challenge.
This book is beautiful in every sense of the word. It feels like a much-needed exhale in a world that often demands constant striving. A gift for anyone in a weary season or simply longing to grow in grace.
The Way of the Wildflower sat on my Kindle as tears flooded my eyes. I found myself thanking Jesus. Ruth Cho Simons was used as an obedient vessel to speak to souls like mine; souls that needed to be reminded of who our God is, and who we are in Him. Throughout these hand-painted pages of wildflowers are biblical truths that seemlessly weave through Ruth’s beautiful way of introducing us to our Abba Father. This is not the first work of Ruth’s I’ve read, nor will it be my last. However, it has been the one that hit me like a block of dynamite had kindled fire within; something that was necessary for purification.. For refining, only He could do.
If you’re looking for a beautiful work of art that was created in a time of desperation, to be an anthem and a source of hope to your weary soul: read this. Devour it. Search the scriptures she gives you in the Word, and dive..
This devotional is absolutely stunning if you have gotten anything by this author before or love her daily devotionals, I highly recommend picking this one up, especially for the last remaining couple of months of the year. I find it so beautiful how she correlated our life with what the creator, Lord God has created in a flower that blooms. I love the artwork, the illustrations that she has drawn! whether that is books or greeting cards. I am so thankful and so grateful that I was able to have the opportunity to read and scan through this lovely book I 100% will be getting the physical copy. If you are looking for a refresh a very encouraging yet honest devotional that is both poetic and stunning, you must pick this up when it’s released October 24 ! When teaching on anxiety, Jesus invites us, in Luke 12:27,28, to "Consider the wildflowers...". Through her beautiful paintings and profound reflections, Ruth brings us along as she accepts this invitation to regard the "Way of the Wildflower," and what these humble flowers can teach us about the loveliness of complete dependence on God. Ruth writes with a tender vulnerability that reminds us that we're not alone in this very imperfect journey of learning to trust God more each day. These short, easy-to-read meditations are filled with the depth and wisdom of a woman who walks closely with Jesus and whose heart is to use her gifting to bring other women into his presence. Every page of this book is full of beauty and truth, drawing our anxious hearts closer to Jesus and into the way of the wildflowers that live: “dependent, free, resilient, unhurried, and beloved”. I have always stopped to admire wildflowers, and now, thanks to this lovely offering, I’ll never look at them the same way again.
Well written and beautifully illustrated by the author, these meditations use the characteristics of wildflowers as examples of how to be resilient, dependent, free, unhurried, and loved. Each topic has six short chapters that takes a negative emotion and describes how to view circumstances from a different perspective. My two favorites were under The Way of Belovedness: When You Don’t Feel Lovely and When You’re Not Sure Who You Are.
As a Christian from a young age, I appreciated being reminded of who I am in Christ and how my attitude and viewpoint can change my outlook.
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to all Christians. This would also make a beautiful gift for a loved one.
Family friendly.
Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I love how Ruth so beautifully connects nature with it’s creator. This book is about living like a wildflower, a life removed from anxious thoughts and worries, based on the Bible and the Word and through God’s grace, give all your worries to God. How can we trust God for everything we need? Through the nature that surrounds us; he is the creator and it’s a daily reminder for us. There are four sections in the book, The Way of Dependency, The Way of Freedom, The Way of Resilience, The Way of the Unhurried, and the Way of the Belovedness. With each section having six chapters, this book can be read as a chapter per day for a 30 day devotional. The illustrations in this book are just gorgeous! Ruth is a beautiful artist, and it’s always so nice to pick up one of her books and look at her beautiful artwork.
Thank you Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for this ARC! I only recently found this author, and I'm so glad I did! She has immense talent for writing devotional material, as well as creating artistic beauty. The devotional writings are Biblically sound and are so encouraging! The use of flowers to make connections with different themes is just brilliant, and gives a peaceful and visually pleasing flow throughout the book. I loved every page. I can't wait for this book to come out! I'm sure I will re-read it several times. I fully plan on purchasing a hardcopy for myself when it comes out, as well as copies for gift giving! I highly recommend it - it is a true treasure. 💜 💜
An encouraging devotional read with lovely illustrations. This is one to savor all year, or pull out when going through a stressful time. It is very inspiring with short writings that correspond to different flowers. The introduction has a concise gospel message explaining the focus of the book, and how it is divided up into sections for reference. It is a nice moment of calm before a busy day, and one that could be read over and over as needed. It helped me to read parts while going through a stressful, busy time this past month. It would make a nice gift book. Recommend!

The Way of the Wildflower is a lovely book! This book of meditations contains so many powerful truths to ease our burdened and weary souls, always pointing us back to Jesus. I have always loved wildflowers and am amazed by the way they are able to grow and thrive in some of the most unusual places. Ruth reminds us that we are able to grow and thrive wherever we are because God is there with us. Ruth's beautiful artwork, paired with the beautiful truths of scripture, go hand in hand and make this book a breath of fresh air for both young and old. I plan to share it with quite a few women in my life who I know it will bless.
What a breath of fresh air! This book has been a refreshing source of encouragement. It’s timely, no matter where you’re at in your personal journey. Ruth has a way with words that feels both encouraging and challenging in a way that promotes growth. The beautiful illustrations are the icing on the cake. I love having visuals of the flowers that serve as the reminder for each point on how God is faithful to his creation, and how he truly does care for the wildflowers, and he certainly cares for us
Daily we are quickly bombarded with chaos at the our fingertips. So appreciate yet another BEAUTIFUL opportunity to sit, rest, & bask in the presence of Jesus. Ruth truly does such an amazing job weaving scripture truths with incredible artwork.
She writes, “He [Jesus] offers you rest in exchange for your surrender of all that overwhelms and burdens you.
Even when the storms we face seek to overtake us, we can sit at the feet of Jesus and receive deep soul rest. We can exchange our hurriedness for peace, and our desire to control for freedom.
