Read 3 times. Last read March 10, 2020 to March 19, 2020.
I am so unqualified to write about this book.
I am physically unqualified, because I could write infinite words about how much I love this book, and I type in a weird way that makes my wrists hurt so infinity is simply not going to happen.
I am emotionally unqualified, because I lack emotional intelligence when it comes to my own feelings and the idea of trying to explain how I feel about this book is overwhelming.
I am spiritually unqualified, because of the aforementioned overwhelmed-ness.
I am also unqualified generally, in the grand scheme of things, because so many people have written so intelligently about the wonderfulness of this book and I have nothing better to add.
Just more rambling like this.
I read a lot of romance, and if you want to venture a theory as to why, I’d love to hear it. I very seldom like it, so maybe it’s a masochist tendency. Maybe I’m a glutton for the attention that writing negative reviews of popular books gives me. (Definitely not that one, since the few mean comments always outweigh the far more numerous nice ones in my stupid brain.) Whatever.
I read a lot of romance, but I almost never feel anything about it.
I LOVE this book. It gives me...uh…(everyone stop reading this to save me the embarrassment and allow me to preserve my rough and tumble reputation)...butterflies.
I know. I’m cringing forever. But it’s true.
This is a lovely book. It’s beautifully written, it’s funny, it’s filled with characters who feel full and real and different from one another (even though half of them have the same name), and it truly is the best love story ever told.
What more could you ask for?! Spoiled rotten, the lot of you.
Bottom line: A dream.

It’s definitely a favorite of mine for sure. So glad it’s a favorite for you too, Emma.

Honestly, who has room for anything else?If you love Pride and Prejudice, I highly recommend Austen's Persuasion! Such a fantastic book, and probably her most mature.

Sorry. It’s late right now, and I got mixed up with your name. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite Austen book and one of my favorite period. I also greatly love the book Emma.
Meg wrote: "I love Pride and prejudice that was my first classic book I’ve ever read and I couldn’t put it down"it was one of the first pre-20th century classics i read and boy oh boy what a good one to start with!!

P&P is constantly fighting for the position of my favorite Austen!! (and usually winning.) but this comment is doubly nice because i'm saving Emma to be my last Austen
I agree with Jason; Emma is absolutely my favorite Austen novel! I hope you love it as much as P&P and Persuasion :)
weird question but does it have a lot of hard words in them? english isn't my first language so i don't know if i'd fully understand classics and i'm trying to stay the fuck away from translations

larissa wrote: "weird question but does it have a lot of hard words in them? english isn't my first language so i don't know if i'd fully understand classics and i'm trying to stay the fuck away from translations"the language is reallyyy different from modern english! it can be a complicated text to get into
i love this book. and this makes me want to go and drop everything i'm doing and reread it right now.
Yes it was the first novel which captured my soul completely, despite having read many novels before. Glad you liked it.

Javelyn wrote: "Yes it was the first novel which captured my soul completely, despite having read many novels before. Glad you liked it."ooh what a lovely way of putting it. see this is what i mean about me being unqualified for this
I'm so happy you love this book! I love it so much I wrote out the whole thing in plain English so that my sister could read it too (who gets confused with the old-timey language). It's so good everyone should read it and adore it!!

I never used to understand why someone would want multiple copies of the same book. Why not spend that money on other books?? And yet here I am, with 7 copies of Pride and Prejudice and no plans to slowly stop collecting pretty editions. It doesn't help that I was partially named after Mr Darcy.
Darcy wrote: "I never used to understand why someone would want multiple copies of the same book. Why not spend that money on other books?? And yet here I am, with 7 copies of Pride and Prejudice and no plans to..."1) amazing name.
2) as someone who has dozens of copies of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland with no real end in sight...couldn't agree more.
Riza Marise wrote: "Heyy I highly recommend North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell! Enemies to lovers at the dawn of industrialization! If you loved lizzy and darcy's dynamic you'll probably love margaret and mr. Thornt..."AHHH North & South is on my owned tbr so this is a THRILL

I'm so glad that you love this book! I recommend the other Jane Austen's book such as persuasion. It is also fun
every detail of this review perfectly encapsulates how i feel about this book. down to the masochistic consumption of capital R romance and the lack of emotional IQ to describe these... feelings. when i finished pride & prejudice for the first time, i immediately flipped back to chapter 1 to read it again
You work in publishing? That's so cool! Since this review is pretty old, are you still? If so, what company? What's your job?Sorry for sounding nosy... I'm just curious...
I own this lovely copy and about 15 others. P&P is my favorite book. I’ve fallen victim to fan fiction.
